Liver Disease Treatment - Fatty Liver, Fibrosis & Cirrhosis
To understand how to treat liver disease you must understand how liver disease starts and how it progresses from one disease to the next. The progression of disease goes as follows; first you have a healthy liver, then your liver becomes fatty where over 10% of it's total weight is fat. This disease is the first stage of liver disease and is known as fatty liver disease. When your liver becomes fatty it also enlarges (inflammation). An inflamed liver can cause scarring (lesions) of the liver tissue known as liver fibrosis. Fibrosis of the liver can lead of cirrhosis of the liver which has stages 1-6, 6 being the most severe. When the scar tissue forms around the portal vein area of the liver is goes from liver fibrosis to liver cirrhosis. The portal vein of the liver is the main passage where blood is supplied to the heart. In stage 6 liver cirrhosis the portal area is full of scar tissue and the amount of blood flow through this area is very minimal. At stage 6 liver cirrhosis treatment is more of a matter of maintaining the current health of the liver and not letting it progress anymore.
